Allowances
The Dutch government offers various allowances (toeslagen) to make living costs more affordable. These cover health insurance, rent, and childcare. Wasylow Advies helps you apply correctly so you don’t miss out on hundreds of euros.
Allowances in the Netherlands
Zorgtoeslag – healthcare allowance
Health insurance is mandatory but expensive. Zorgtoeslag helps reduce the cost, paid monthly or after the year.
Conditions:
- Dutch health insurance,
- at least 18 years old,
- income and assets below limits.
Values (2025):
- max. income: €39,719 (single), €50,206 (with partner)
- max. allowance: €131/month (€1,572/year) – single
- max. allowance: €250/month (€3,000/year) – with partner
- asset limit: €141,896 / €179,429
Example: Anna earns €30,000 and gets about €120/month zorgtoeslag.
Huurtoeslag – rent allowance
Support for tenants with lower incomes to help pay rent.
Conditions:
- income and assets within limits,
- rent below the threshold,
- independent apartment,
- registered at the address.
Values (2025):
- max. rent: €477.20 (<23 years, no kids), €900.07 (others)
- asset limit: €37,395 / €74,790
- income depends on rent & household
Example: Tomasz (28) pays €740 rent, earns €24,000. He qualifies for huurtoeslag.
Kindgebonden budget – child-related allowance
Extra financial support for families with children, in addition to child benefit (kinderbijslag).
Conditions:
- receive child benefit,
- income and assets within limits,
- children registered at the same address.
Values (2025):
- max. income: €28,406 (single), €37,545 (with partner)
- max. allowance: €5,900 (single parent) / €2,511 (with partner)
- age supplement: +€703 (12–15 yrs), +€936 (16–17 yrs)
- asset limit: €141,896 / €179,429
Example: Karolina, single with 2 kids, income €26,000. She gets over €8,000 per year.
Kinderopvangtoeslag – childcare allowance
Covers part of childcare costs if both parents work, study, or follow an integration course.
Conditions:
- both parents active,
- childcare registered in LRK,
- child registered at same address.
Values (2025):
- max. hourly rate: €10.71 (nursery), €9.52 (after-school), €8.10 (childminder)
- up to 230 hours/month per child
- reimbursement: up to 96% (low incomes), min. 33.3–67.1% (higher incomes)
Example: Marta & Jan pay €1,200/month for childcare. With allowance, only ~€400.
